How we helped Uncommon scale demand and reposition for long-term growth

A full strategic reset alongside immediate commercial delivery:  filling summer camps, clarifying the brand, and building the foundations for sustainable growth.

‍

Uncommon is an online home for neurodivergent young people, providing clubs, mentoring, and structured support in a safe, inclusive environment. Demand was strong, but the brand was largely perceived as an after-school club. This description underplayed the depth of support and limited both growth potential and the business's ability to communicate its genuine value to families.

‍

The goal

‍

Deliver immediate commercial results (filling summer camps) while simultaneously running a full strategic reset that repositioned Uncommon accurately and built the foundations for long-term scalable growth.

The challenge

‍

Uncommon needed two things at once at different paces: short-term commercial delivery requiring rapid tactical action, and long-term repositioning requiring research, stakeholder input, and careful thought, without either track compromising the other.

Results

‍

Summer camps filled

‍

The immediate commercial target was met through refined messaging and targeted routes to market.

‍

Strategic repositioning complete

‍

Uncommon moved from being perceived as a set of activities to a full community and ongoing support system for neurodivergent young people and their families.

‍

First in-house marketer hired

‍

Uncommon gained the confidence, structure, and tools to hire and onboard its first in-house marketer, ensuring the strategy continued beyond the engagement.

‍

The strategy

‍

Immediate demand generation

‍

Delivered short-term commercial results while the longer-term work ran in parallel:

‍

  • Refined messaging to communicate Uncommon's value more clearly to parents and carers in the buying window
  • Identified and activated the most effective routes to market for programme bookings
  • Drove timely demand for summer camps without waiting for the full strategic reset to complete

‍

Stakeholder research and audience insight

‍

Built the repositioning on a rigorous understanding of the audience and the market:

‍

  • Conducted stakeholder interviews with the founding team, existing families, and community members
  • Ran audience insight work to understand what parents and carers genuinely valued about Uncommon's support
  • Conducted market analysis to map how Uncommon sat relative to other options families were considering

‍

Full strategic repositioning

‍

Used the insight work to define Uncommon's position clearly and accurately:

‍

  • Repositioned Uncommon from a set of activities to a full community and ongoing support system for neurodivergent young people and their families
  • Developed positioning, messaging, and audience frameworks that reflected what the business genuinely was
  • Created strategic frameworks across positioning, audience focus, messaging hierarchy, and growth levers

‍

Founder-embedded delivery and handover

‍

Worked closely with the founder throughout to build internal ownership of the strategy:

‍

  • Collaborated directly with the founder to translate insight and strategy into practical delivery
  • Designed all frameworks so they could be owned and executed internally without ongoing external support
  • Supported the recruitment and onboarding of the first in-house marketer to carry the strategy forward
